23 Digital Marketing Tips for Beginners

To celebrate my 23rd birthday on Thursday, I wanted to share a selection of tips I have learnt during my career. These tips span the whole of digital marketing, covering content, social media, analytics and influencer marketing, and granted, not all of them will be applicable to your situation. Let me know in the comments which tips have stayed with you throughout your career!

1. Experiment with posting times across different platforms to find the best posting time and day for your brand

2. If you don't have an on-site blog, start one

3. If you do have an om-site blog, keep it updated

4. Use Canva for small graphic design jobs

5. Use Unsplash for high quality, royalty free imagery

6. Don't be afraid of sending the first LinkedIn message when networking

7. Don't be afraid to collaborate with other brands on content and competitions

8. Turn on Instagram Business Insights

9. Turn on Twitter Analytics (the results may surprise you!)

10. If you don't have the time to create your own content for social media, use royalty free content

11. Build a brand personality (Innocent do this perfectly!)

12. Don't dismiss influencer marketing as unattainable - influencers come in a range of shapes, sizes, and prices

13. Use social media to interact with your audience. Ask them questions and reach out to them directly

14. Use TweetDeck to monitor what is being said about you and your brand

15. ALWAYS have a crisis plan

16. Get involved with trends, holidays and days of the year

17. Don't shoehorn your brand into every trend, some will definitely not make sense

18. Know exactly who your audience are and the types of content they want to see

19. Experiment with different hashtags - your first attempt will never be the best combination

20. Find the right analytics tools for your needs - what works for most may not work for you

21. Not every social media platform will be right for every brand - spend your time where your audience are

22. It's not always best to stick to your guns. If you have the capability to experiment with content, posting times and hashtags, do it
